What are planning document consultations?
Mansfield District Council seeks the views of residents, business owners and stakeholders on the development of planning policy and development management documents.
Current consultations
The council are reviewing the current local plan to ensure that it reflects changes to the district’s housing requirements along with new legislation and guidance introduced by the government. The council are seeking to engage with key stakeholders, including individuals and organisations who have an interest in the district (in accordance with Regulation 18 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012).
This Local Plan Review consultation gives the community and other interested stakeholders a chance to shape the plan, including what areas across Mansfield and Warsop should be designated for new development. The draft Local Plan Review draws on previous consultations and work done so far to update the plan, and includes a long list of potential sites which could come forward for new development. The council is seeking your views on these sites and will then undertake further assessment of all sites to determine which ites should be allocated.
You can make comments on this report from 30 May to 13 July 2025. All comments received will be used to inform the Publication Draft Local Plan (under Regulation 19) that will be consulted on and submitted to the Planning Inspectorate for an examination in public.
You can view the document and comment online by visiting our consultation portal . A copy of the document is also available at the Civic Centre and at each library in the district during the consultation period. Please check opening times.
Drop-in sessions have been arranged on the following dates where you can come along and find out more.

The government requires every Local Plan to be reviewed at least once every five years. The current local plan was adopted in 2020 and is therefore being reviewed.
Maintaining an up-to-date plan supports growth, ensuring there is enough land for homes, jobs and the infrastructure necessary to support them. Having an up-to-date plan helps protect against speculative and unplanned development that might undermine sustainable and resilient communities.

Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
It is important that we engage with the community throughout the preparation of the Local Plan and other planning policy documents. In doing this we need to ensure we follow the council's Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) 2022 (opens in new window) and the regulations governing the development plan process.
We are required by legislation to produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) every five years.
