What are planning document consultations?
Mansfield District Council seeks the views of residents, business owners and stakeholders on the development of planning policy and development management documents.

Mansfield District Local Plan Review Regulation 19 consultation
The council has been reviewing the current local plan to ensure that it reflects changes to the district’s housing requirements, updated evidence and new legislation and guidance introduced by the government. Between 29 September and 10 November 2026, the council is seeking to engage with key stakeholders, including individuals and organisations who have an interest in the district, in accordance with Regulations 19 and 20 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2012 (as amended).
Subject to council approval, it can then be submitted to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government with supporting documents and all representations received on the final draft. The Secretary of State will appoint an independent Planning Inspector(s) to conduct an Examination in Public to consider whether the Local Plan is ‘sound’ and ‘legally compliant’.
The Publication Draft Local Plan Review has been produced alongside a Sustainability Assessment and a Habitats Regulations Assessment, which are also available for comment. More information on supporting evidence can be seen on the Local Plan Review documents and evidence webpage.
You can view the document and comment online by visiting our consultation portal. A copy of the document is also available at the Civic Centre and at each library in the district during the consultation period. Please check opening times.
Your consultation representation should focus on whether the Local Plan Review is legally compliant and/or sound. If you believe changes are needed, please explain why, provide supporting evidence where possible, and clearly state what modification you would like to see. Please see the Statement of Representation Procedure Note. A guidance note has been produced to assist you in making your representation.
To ensure an effective and fair examination, it is important that the Inspector(s) and all other participants in the examination process are able to know who has made representations on the plan. The council will therefore ensure that the names of those making representations are made available (including publication on the council’s website) and taken into account by the Inspector(s).
If a comment contains derogatory remarks, including racist, sexist, bigoted, prejudicial, offensive or abusive language, it will be marked as inadmissible.
The Publication Draft (Regulation 19) Local Plan Review draws on previous consultations carried out in 2023 and 2025.

Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)
It is important that we engage with the community throughout the preparation of the Local Plan and other planning policy documents. In doing this we need to ensure we follow the council's Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) 2022 (opens in new window) and the regulations governing the development plan process.
We are required by legislation to produce a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) every five years.
