Andy Abrahams, Executive Mayor of Mansfield calls on residents and business to fully prepare for the national lockdown on Thursday.
“Mansfield remains in Tier 3 until Thursday when we move from local restrictions to the national lockdown, which is expected to last until 2 December. This means that more businesses will be required to close and residents will need to stay at home, work from home wherever possible and only shop for essential items.”
“Doing this now should help to slow down the spread of Covid-19 in our community, protect the NHS and the most vulnerable people in our society. It will put us in the best possible place ahead of Christmas.
“A second lockdown won’t be easy for any of us, but adhering to the rules is vital. You must stay at home, minimise the time you spend outside your home and maintain social distancing, remember hands, face, space. Together as a community we can help to keep Mansfield safe.”
“Officers are reviewing the council’s contingency plans to ensure that our front line services remain resilient over the next month. We have no plans to reduce front line provision however, we will continue to make sure that we help our most vulnerable people as a priority”.
A full list of the national lockdown restrictions can be found on the Government website (opens in new window).
The government also guidance states that:
- you must not meet indoors with anyone from outside of your household or support bubble.
- you can be outside of your home for education purposes, for work when you cannot work from home, for medical purposes, to visit people in your support bubble, to provide care for vulnerable people, or to volunteer.
- you can exercise or visit outdoor public places (such as parks, beaches, countryside, public gardens, allotments and playgrounds) with the people you live with, your support bubble, or 1 person from another household. You cannot meet in a private garden.
To reduce social contact, the Government has ordered certain businesses and venues to close, these include:
- non-essential retail
- indoor and outdoor leisure facilities
- leisure and entertainment venues
- personal care services.
Mansfield Market will move to food only stalls as non-essential retailers are requested to close under the lockdown rules.
Further announcements are expected regarding support and financial packages for those businesses who must close. We will share that important information when we have it.
Any changes to services will be announced on the council’s COVID-19 hub and shared on Facebook (opens in new window) and Twitter (opens in new window).
