Constitution

We have an agreed Constitution which sets out how we operate. It outlines how decisions are reached and what procedures are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.

The Constitution is divided into a number of parts which set out basic rules governing the council's business. Some of these processes are required by law, while others are a matter for the council to choose.

The Constitution is monitored and updated through the council's Governance and Ethics Committee. However, any recommendations for amendments to the Constitution need to be approved by Full Council.
