Tenant Involvement

Become a member of the tenant scrutiny panel

The Housing Services Panel

The Housing Services Panel is our Tenant led Scrutiny Panel and is made up of volunteers that work together to monitor and scrutinise the services delivered by us in our role as Landlord. The role of the Panel is to:

  • To take an independent view of our performance against the standards tenants expect.
  • To hold us to account to our tenants where performance fails to meet those standards.

Can I become a member?

Any tenant of Mansfield District Council is eligible to sit on the panel providing they are:

  • Over 18 years old.
  • Not in serious breach of their obligations as a tenant.

What knowledge or experience will I need to become a panel member?

  • Experience of being a tenant of Mansfield District Council.
  • Basic knowledge or interest in how housing services are delivered.
  • A common sense approach.
  • Ability to challenge opinions.

We will provide full training and support to anyone who is interested in becoming a Scrutiny Panel member.

How much time do I need to set aside?

The Scrutiny Panel meets once a month for approximately two hours, however you may have to commit to additional time at home to read any information provided as part of the scrutiny process.

All new members will also be expected to attend training courses from time to time. These will be arranged locally where possible and will be dependent on the individual member.

What if I am unable to get to meetings but would still like to be involved?

You can still be involved even if you are unable to attend the monthly meetings by becoming an Armchair Member meaning you do not have to leave the comfort of your own home.

As an Armchair member you will be involved in selecting and participating in the areas for scrutiny by receiving and providing your feedback on the information requested by and made available to all the panel members.

You can make your comments, ask questions and make suggestions and recommendations through the chair of the panel with feedback provided through copies of the minutes of all panel meetings and scrutiny reports.

What will I get out of being a panel member?

Whilst panel members don't get paid for carrying out their role, all expenses are reimbursed so you will never be out of pocket.

As well as meeting new people and getting to know how services are delivered, the experience you gain from being part of the Housing Services Panel could help you develop your skills and assist you in your future by building your confidence and providing a sense of achievement.
