Police and Crime Commissioner elections take place every four years. The last Police & Crime Commissioner election was held on 2 May 2024. The next election is due to take place in May 2028.
The role of the Police and Crime Commissioner
The Police and Crime Commissioner is responsible for holding the Chief Constable and police force to account on the public's behalf, oversees how crime is tackled in their area and aims to make sure the police are providing a good service. Their role includes:
- meeting the public regularly to listen to their views on policing
- producing a police and crime plan setting out local policing priorities
- deciding how the budget will be spent
- appointing Chief Constables and dismissing them if needed.

The voting system
Each voter has one vote.
The total votes in the Mansfield District are added together with the totals from each of the Nottinghamshire local authorities.
The Nottinghamshire Police & Crime Commissioner candidate who gets the most votes is elected.
This system is called first past the post.
