Mansfield District Council, as Corporate Trustee of Berry Hill Park will be considering an application from the Nottinghamshire Mining Museum.

The application is for the erection of a monument commemorating the town’s mining history in a popular green space.

Nottinghamshire Mining Museum have submitted a request for approval in principle to erect the sculpture and a plaque at Berry Hill Park, close to an existing pit wheel in the area.

The Nottinghamshire Mining Museum plans to publicly consult on the proposal and will be fundraising to deliver the project.

The request, if formally approved by the Governance and Standards Committee as Trustees of the park on Wednesday 19 October, will coincide with the council's improvement works planned for the park. The enhancements are part of the Destination Parks project funded by £2.94m of Towns Fund money.

The council's ambitious Destination Parks project will see new and improved accessible footpaths, dedicated event space and a new building with a multi-functional space, café, toilets and changing rooms. Following a public consultation around potential enhancements, the project design will be confirmed, with a planning application due to be submitted in December.

The council became corporate trustees of the historical park in 2018.
