Popular Mansfield 10K returns

The popular Mansfield 10K will return on Sunday 15 September. Since its introduction in 2015, the event has doubled in size, attracting more than 1,000 participants to the centre of Mansfield to take

This year the number is expected to increase again, because Mansfield 10K has been chosen as the host for the Notts AAA 10K Road Running County Championships, which will see the best club runners in the county competing for glory.

The 5K distance also returns giving people the opportunity to have a go at their first closed-road distance.

Mansfield District Council Executive Mayor Andy Abrahams said: "We are really pleased to be supporting the Mansfield 10K again this year and hosting in it the town centre.  Events such as this are important to Mansfield and demonstrates our potential as a destination.

"As a keen runner I understand the joy of the sport - it's free and available to anyone and everyone! It's a great way to keep fit and enjoy your surroundings."

Mansfield MP Ben Bradley will also be taking part in the event and said: "I am really looking forward to taking part in my second 10K run here in Mansfield.

"Last year's event was a massive success which saw lots of hundreds of people visit our town centre to support this amazing event. I will be doing my very best to beat my time in last year's run and, at the same time, raise lots of money for a local charity."

The official charity for the event is Reach UK which provides support and opportunities for people living with learning disabilities.

Fundraising Officer for Reach UK Sarah Cobb said: "Reach Learning Disability has been at the heart of the Mansfield 10K since its inception. "This fantastic event sums up everything that's great about the town and demonstrates how people with learning disabilities are accepted as an integral part of community life.
