Executive Mayor Andy Abrahams says the district must pull together to avoid an escalation of government COVID-19 restrictions.

As other parts of the Nottinghamshire prepare to move into Tier 3 on Thursday 29 October, Mayor Andy said: "The recent acceleration in cases is disturbing. Reported cases of coronavirus continue to rise in Mansfield and particularly among the over-60s who are the most vulnerable to the worst effects of this virus.

"We must protect our most vulnerable people at this time and protect our vital NHS services from becoming overwhelmed.

"These decisions that the government makes about which tier of restrictions an area should be in are based on the insight of up to date scientific data, not just on the number of cases alone. They also take into account things like which age groups are most affected and the numbers of hospital admissions.

"Mansfield District Council continues to work closely with Public Health at the county council and with hospital trusts and follows the advice of the government to do everything we can to help bring the number of infections down.

"The whole community must continue to pull together and everyone must keep following the Tier 2 rules if we are to avoid being put in Tier 3 in the future.

"We ask that all residents and businesses continue to follow the government guidance on Hands Face Space, that different households do not mix indoors and that outdoors everyone sticks to rule of six."

Full details of Tier 2 (High alert level) restrictions and exemptions can be found on the government's website (link opens in new window).

The council urges anyone with virus symptoms to get a test and to follow rules on self-isolation if contacted by NHS Test and Trace. Book online on the government website (link opens in a new window).
