Mansfield’s Four Seasons Shopping Centre Car Park will temporarily close for one week as part of a £2m scheme to improve the facility.
The Mansfield District Council car park will be closed from Sunday 6 September until Saturday 12 September as part of a major improvement scheme. The full closure will allow essential construction works to take place as part of the final phases of the upgrade, which are due to be completed by October.
The Four Seasons Shopping Centre will remain fully open and alternative parking spaces can be found around the town centre at car parks in Union Street, Toothill Lane, Toothill Road, and Clumber Street.
The facility will reopen on Sunday 13 September in time for the popular Mansfield 10k event.
Executive Mayor of Mansfield, Andy Abrahams said: “Shoppers should know that Mansfield remains well and truly open for business despite this short closure.
“There are hundreds of parking spaces available at other car parks, both council owned and privately owned, within a five-minute walk of town centre.
“We tried to avoid a full closure. However, the safety of the public - and contractors while working at the car park - has to be our number one priority.
“Once this important repair and refurbishment project at Four Seasons is completed, shoppers will have a much more user-friendly car park, and this will help to attract more shoppers into the town centre.”
The project to improve the Four Seasons Car Park has involved concrete frame repairs, re-tarmacking and colour-coding surfaces, and installing more effective lighting and signs to make the car park easier to navigate and use.
The electric vehicle charging points will be easier to find, there will be improved walkways for pedestrians and wider parking bays in some areas.
Users of the car park can now also pay for their stay by card, cash or by using an app on their smart phone.
These works were carried out following a structural survey in 2024, which highlighted some improvements were needed to increase the longevity and viability of the car park, which opened in 1976.
Further checks were carried out in November 2025 at the car park following the partial collapse at the nearby Walkden Street Car Park a year ago, and before any decision was made on awarding the repairs contract for the Four Seasons Car Park.
These surveys confirmed the structural integrity of the Four Seasons Car Park. Although the two car parks look similar to each other, the structural design of the reinforced concrete decks at the Four Seasons facility is different.
The work at Four Seasons is being funded through the council’s capital programme budgets for 2025/26 and 2026/27. The contractor is Cemplas Waterproofing and Concrete Repairs.
