Mansfield District Council is advising members of the public not to use a bridge in Mansfield after it was assessed yesterday (7 April) as dangerous.

The council’s Building Control officers examined Packman’s Bridge off Quarry Lane in response to concerns about the structure.

The bridge is expected to be formally closed by Nottinghamshire County Council, as the highways authority, as soon as the relevant closure order can be put in place.

In the meantime, in the interests of public safety, drivers and pedestrians are being advised to stop using it.

Katie Mills, Assistant Director of Planning, said: “We will be undertaking a full assessment of the work needed to make the bridge safe and strive to reopen it as soon as possible.”

The bridge crosses the River Maun behind Mansfield Leisure Park. Users are often football supporters heading to and from Mansfield Town Football Club’s ground at Field Mill. The public is being asked to find an alternative route until the situation is resolved.
