Warsop Health Hub has been named as among the winners of the ukactive Awards 2025.
The Mansfield District Council-owned leisure centre and the architects who designed it, Roberts Limbrick & Alliance, picked up the award for Build, Design or Refurbishment of the Year.
Cllr Andy Burgin, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, attended the ceremony in Birmingham showcasing the best of the UK’s physical activity sector, with 22 awards presented.
He said: “The awards saw hundreds of nominations from across the country and the judges commended the high quality and achievement demonstrated by every finalist.
“The award for the design and build of Warsop Health Hub is well deserved. Our architect partners, Roberts Limbrick & Alliance, did a tremendous job at meeting the brief and creating something that is now greatly valued by the Warsop community.
“We were also shortlisted for the Outstanding Achievement Award. While we didn’t win that one, getting to the final was still a great achievement at these national awards.”
Work on the £9.1m Hub began in 2023 and it opened to the public in June 2024. The state-of-the-art facility offers a gym, swimming pool, multi-purpose sports hall, changing places, and a dedicated community room.
Late last year, the final phase of the hub’s delivery was marked by the planting of more than 1,500 trees in Carr Lane Park to enhance the green space.
During the build, children at Birklands Primary School buried a time capsule on the site containing artwork, letters, drawings, and objects they had created to encapsulate Warsop.
Accessible design and inclusive programming have ensured the hub is a place for people of all ages and abilities to get active and stay connected. It is the first health hub of its kind built under Sports England’s local leisure model, which aims to provide affordable facilities in the community.
In its first year of operation under More Leisure Community Trust, in partnership with Serco Leisure, the facility has offered inclusive access to health, fitness, and wellbeing support and became a key partner in various health initiatives. It has surpassed all expectations in usage.
It has supported NHS-led falls prevention sessions, launched the Healthy Life GP referral scheme, which has helped dozens of residents begin their journey to improved wellbeing. It has also played host to activities like walking groups, family-friendly events, and the Small Steps to Feeling Great programme.
It recorded:
- Over 121,000 visits
- More than 2,000 active members, including 900 health and fitness members
- 300 children enrolled in swimming lessons
- 1,000 pay-as-you-go users
- £450,000 of social value generated, as measured by Sport England’s social value calculator
The health hub was one of five projects funded from the £12.3m awarded to Mansfield District Council in 2021 from the Towns Fund allocation.
