The Mansfield Museum and Art Gallery has been shortlisted in three categories at the upcoming Power of Place Midlands Museum Awards for its work in bringing communities together.

The Mansfield attraction, run by Mansfield District Council Cultural Services, has been named as a finalist in the Inclusive Impact Award, the Creative Collections Award and the Bridge Builder Award categories at the upcoming ceremony in Birmingham on November 12.

Portfolio Holder for Planning and Growth at Mansfield District Council, Councillor Stuart Richardson, said: “It’s wonderful to see the hard work, creativity and ambition of the team at the Mansfield Museum and Art Gallery honoured in this way.

“Looking at the other finalists, clearly the standard is very high which demonstrates our dedication to bringing fun, innovative and inclusive exhibitions and events to Mansfield. Our mission is to bring people together to celebrate our heritage, our stories and our communities, and the categories we’ve been shortlisted in are evidence that we’re doing just that. Congratulations and good luck to everyone involved.”

Projects highlighted for the awards have included the Better by Change project which supported people living with disabilities in the workplace as well as making the museum more accessible, and the Creative Women Together project which supports vulnerable women through artistic activities to build confidence and foster friendships.

The Creative Collections Award shortlisting highlighted the recent World of Birds exhibition – a collection of around 3,000 bird specimens created by botanist and naturist Joseph Whitaker.

The Power of Place Midlands Museum Awards is organised by Museum Development, which is funded by Arts Council England and supports museums through development, training, grants and advice across the East and West Midlands.
