Mansfield District Council will mark the occasion with a parade by service and uniformed organisations after a wreath-laying ceremony at the Civic Centre on Sunday 9 November at 10am.
There will also be a service at St Peter and St Paul’s Church for parade participants with a two-minute silence. The parade will then reform and conclude with a salute in front of the Old Town Hall in the Market Place.
Among the organisations taking part in the parade will be the Royal British Legion (RBL), the Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force, local Cadet forces and Guides and Scouts.
For safety reasons, there will be road closures in place along the route of the annual parade from 9.30am until 12.30pm.
Executive Mayor of Mansfield Andy Abrahams said: “I hope people will join us in paying their respects to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to this country.
“Although more than a century has passed since the start of the First World War, it is still important to reflect and remember all those who have given their lives in wars and conflicts since 1914 and give thanks for the freedoms they have helped to preserve.”
As well as the Remembrance Sunday commemoration, the council will also join the nation in marking the anniversary of the First World War Armistice Day on Tuesday 11 November, with a two-minute silence at 11am – the exact date and time the Armistice agreement was signed in 1918 signed by Germany and the Allies, bringing a halt to combat on the Western Front.
