Community organisations in Mansfield are being invited to put projects forward for a new round of government funding.

Mansfield Place Board and Mansfield District Council will be helping to deliver the government’s Plan for Neighbourhoods (PfN) programme, a 10-year investment programme designed to support the regeneration of towns and neighbourhoods through long-term, community-led change.

Local groups, voluntary organisations, businesses, education providers, cultural and heritage bodies, and public sector partners are being invited to bring forward ideas with a deadline of 5pm on Friday 26 September 2025.

Mansfield has been selected as one of 75 areas of the country to receive a share of £1.5 billion of government funding in the PfN programme (link opens on government website in new window).

Each area will receive up to £20m with Mansfield Place Board and Mansfield District Council responsible for identifying, assessing and selecting which projects receive a share of that.

All projects in Mansfield should be guided by the principles of the council’s Make it in Mansfield (MiiM) strategy, which sets out a local vision for growth, opportunity, and inclusion, and by the three core objectives of PfN:

  • to help create thriving places,
  • to build stronger communities
  • to enable local people to take back control over their area’s future.

While the Make it in Mansfield strategy covers the whole district, PfN investment will focus on the neighbourhoods eligible for funding. The PfN area set out by the government includes the urban area of Mansfield, Forest Town and Mansfield Woodhouse.

The government has set out a wide-ranging list of the kind of projects that could be funded through the PfN scheme.

It covers areas such as:

  • Regeneration, high streets and heritage.
  • Creating and improving green spaces.
  • Energy efficiency and decarbonisation and flooding alleviation schemes
  • Support for arts, cultural, heritage and creative activities and supporting the visitor economy.
  • Housing projects to modernise social housing and tackle rough sleeping
  • Projects that support getting people into work, filling skills gaps, improving productivity and supporting local businesses.
  • Measures to improve community cohesion and support volunteering, social action and the civil society.
  • Projects that improve health and wellbeing.
  • Transport improvements.

Executive Mayor Andy Abrahams said: “This is a great opportunity for community organisations to bring about real positive change in their neighbourhoods.

“We are excited by the potential scope of this funding and how it could enhance the quality of life in Mansfield in a variety of ways.

“The process for selecting what schemes should be put forward for PfN funding will be robust and transparent and approved projects will be closely monitored to ensure they stay on track and deliver value for money.”

Andrew Cropley, chair of Mansfield Place Board, said: “I hope each of our communities are ambitious in proposing projects that will help us deliver the Make it in Mansfield Strategy and, at the same time, make significant positive impact on their prosperity and well-being.  I’m looking forward very much to reading the submissions and bringing some of them to fruition.”

The selecting process for ideas will be weighted according to four assessment categories:

  • Strategic Fit - how well the project aligns with the 25 commitments in the Make it in Mansfield strategy.
  • How well the project reflects the priorities raised by communities and neighbours and through recent engagement activity (survey results, workshops, youth voice) and explains how it will involve them in decision-making and/or enhance capacity.
  • Deliverability and risk.
  • Value for money and what match funding can be achieved.

More details about the scheme, expression of interest form and guidelines for submitting proposals can be found on the Make It In Mansfield web pages (link opens in new window). Expressions of interest should be emailed to the Regen team (link opens in email app) at regeneration@mansfield.gov.uk and to Leon Dale at West Nottinghamshire College (link opens in email app) at leon.dale@wnc.ac.uk.
