Statement regarding protest by Predator Hunters in Mansfield

Mansfield District Council would like to correct misinformation put out by Predator Hunters about the accommodation of asylum seekers in the district.

Each local authority area is allocated a quota by the Home Office for the number of asylum seekers that should be accommodated. This quota applies specifically to accommodation sourced by Serco in the private rented sector.

To be very clear:

No social housing is used for this purpose.

No existing tenants are displaced because of this process.

The council is not involved in placing individuals or selecting properties; this is managed entirely by Serco, under contract with the Home Office. Our role is limited to ensuring compliance with planning and housing standards where required.

Spreading misinformation of this kind only creates unnecessary divisions in the community and a false sense of mistrust towards authorities who have a duty of care to everyone - including refugees and asylum seekers. It is in everyone’s interests that we all work together with the relevant authorities to maintain a respectful and inclusive community.
