Mansfield District Council is running a five-day campaign to raise awareness of the work of its Environment and Community Protection team in tackling antisocial behaviour.
Under the theme Working Together for a Safer Mansfield, the campaign also aims to spread the word about how to report antisocial behaviour (ASB) on the council website.
The campaign runs from Monday 30 June to Friday 4 July and includes a Day of Action with Nottinghamshire Police, visits to school, patrols in ASB hotspots around the district and a day focusing on environmental crimes such as fly tipping.
The main message the Environment and Community Safety team want to get over to the public during the week is how best to report fly tipping, abandoned vehicles, graffiti and ASB to the council.
The most effective way is to use the specific forms on the council website because ensures an issue is dealt with as quickly as possible and allows the council to target its limited resources into the right areas. These forms can be found on the council website (link opens in new window).
Cllr Angie Jackson, Joint Portfolio Holder for Wellbeing, Health and Safer Communities, said: “We know how much ASB can be a detriment to the quality of life for our residents in Mansfield and they have told us in consultations that they value feeling safe as they go about their everyday lives.
“Community safety is not a service that a district council has to provide by law, but it is one we continue to fund in Mansfield because it is clear that people value the extra security it provides especially for lower level crimes. It aligns strongly with our council priorities to work with partners to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
“The job of our Community Protection Officers is not easy and they deserve our appreciation and respect – they face a lot of challenges but have to operate without the added powers of police officers.
“This week is a chance to shine a light on how lucky we are in Mansfield to have these officers out and about sorting out a range of issues from fly tips and abandoned vehicles to neighbour disputes and graffiti.
“If you see them out and about this week go and say hello, or give them a friendly wave to show we appreciate their efforts to make Mansfield safer for everyone.”
