FAQ's on Storm Babet

What financial support is available?

Hardship funding is available to homes that have been flooded

Residents whose homes have flooded are reminded they are eligible for support through the fund, which offers a one-off payment of £120.

Small or micro businesses with up to 49 employees, whose premises have flooded, will be eligible to apply for an emergency payment of up to £300 to help them cope with the immediate, short-term loss of income.

How to apply for the Hardship Fund:

Please call the county council’s contact centre on 0300 500 8080. Customer Service Centre staff are available between 8.30am and 5pm Monday to Thursday and 8.30am and 4.30pm on Friday to take information, and payments will be made to those who are eligible.

Government Support

On 25 October, the UK Government announced that financial support will be available to areas in England that had experienced exceptional localised flooding.

Mansfield District Council is administering the package of support, which includes a Community Recovery Grant of £500 per household, a 100% Council Tax Discount and a 100% Business Rates Relief. The funding is available to anyone whose property suffered internal flood damage, or for people who were not able to live in their property for more than 48 hours as a direct result of Storm Babet.

More information has been announced about this fund and this can be viewed in more detail on the webpage here. (opens in new window)

What about the flooded roads and surface water on pavements?

Flooding on roads can be caused by blocked highway drains and grates. You’ll need to report it to Nottinghamshire County Council who are responsible for the maintenance of the highway network. Report it online here (opens in new window).

What roads are closed due to flooding? When is my road going to be open?

The county council will publicise all A-road closures and re-openings that we are aware of via its 'Disruption to Services' webpage (opens in new window) and via its Twitter feed - @NottsCC.  It may also be worth tuning in to local radio stations, such as BBC Radio Nottingham, Capital FM and Mansfield 103.2.  During their news broadcasts they will usually update on road closures they are aware of, particularly around peak travel times.

How do I keep up to date?

You can sign up for flood alerts here (opens in new window). Also, keep checking the Nottinghamshire County Council and Mansfield District Council social media pages for the latest information.

I am worried about watering entering my property

Report it online (opens in new window) on the Nottinghamshire County Council website or contact their Customer Service Centre on 0300 500 80 80.

Sandbags

Residents are encouraged to make sure their property is protected as far as possible. You can buy unfilled sandbags and a supply of sand from most DIY stores and builders merchants. You can also purchase filled sandbags and aqua sacs from selective suppliers. Read advice on the government website about using sandbags correctly (opens in new window).

If you are at imminent risk of being flooded then you can request sandbags through Nottinghamshire County Council on 0300 500 80 80, however they are not guaranteed.
