Update on Veolia strikes and how they could affect your bin collections

From 24 September to 8 October, operatives at Veolia, contractors that dispose of kerbside waste in Nottinghamshire will be taking strike action, in a dispute between staff and Veolia management.

Updated advice to customers 3 October 2023

As the Veolia strikes continue into a second week we would like to thank all our customers for their ongoing patience and give some further advice on bin collections;

  • Our drivers and operatives are not on strike, it is Veolia staff who are taking industrial action and this impacts on our ability to dispose of the waste we collect.
  • During strike action we are using alternative disposal sites, these locations are further away which takes more time to get to. This means that some rounds have not been completed as planned.
  • We are aware of missed bins from last week (W/C 25 September 2023)  in the following areas: Berry Hill and Adamsway, Eakring Road, some areas of Warsop and Mansfield Woodhouse, Brick Kiln Lane and areas off Andover Road and Ladybrook Lane.
  • A small amount of side waste can be taken with blue bins (household recycling) if presented in a cardboard box, if you have large amounts of recyclable waste please visit a recycling centre to dispose of paper, cardboard etc.
  • Side waste will not be accepted with green bins. Please store any excess waste and place it in your bin once it has been emptied.
  • There is no need to call us to report a missed round, we are aware of the streets where bins remain unemptied and will return for them.
  • We are experiencing high call volumes on our main switchboard, you can also contact us via social media and on email at mdc@mansfield.gov.uk.
  • We understand that customers are frustrated with the situation. Please be assured we are doing our best to empty bins and dispose of waste whilst Veolia undertake strike action.
  • We will return to missed bins, please leave them out for collection.

Original message posted 22 September 2023

Veolia is working to ensure their sites remain open for waste collection vehicles to dispose of household and trade waste, to minimise disruption on the service for residents.

Residents can be assured that the disposal of glass recycling and garden waste is not impacted by this industrial action but, trade and household waste (green bin) and mixed recycling (blue bin) may be affected.

Customers should be aware that the strike action is discontinuous meaning some days may be more affected than others. The council will endeavour to work with the county council and other partners to keep disruption to a minimum.

For now, our advice to residents and businesses is to please put your bin out for collection as scheduled and follow our social media feeds and website for updates.

We apologise for any inconvenience that the industrial action may cause our residents.

Customers are advised to follow our latest news for more service updates and make use of alternative recycling points should they be needed.
