Thousands dance the night away following the return of Party on the Market

Party on the Market crowd shot

Mansfield’s Deputy Mayor Craig Whitby has thanked all partners and residents for their support following the roaring success of Party on the Market.

On Sunday (4 June), more than 5,000 visitors from across the district came to the Market Place to enjoy a jam-packed day of entertainment, live music, and food.

The event was funded jointly by Mansfield BID and Mansfield District Council and hosted with event partners CANVAS and Mansfield 103.2.

The day began at 12noon in Westgate, where visitors sampled some of the delicious street food on offer, followed by fantastic live performances in the dedicated busker area.

A Million Dreams performing as The Greatest Showman kicked off the main stage show at 2pm, belting classic hits from the popular musical followed by the Harry Styles experience.

Dan Budd as Robbie Williams joined the stage, serenading the crowd with top pop hits, including Rock DJ and Angels, followed by crowd karaoke with Jono and Miss Margo. Between each act, there was a battle of the decades, a dance-off and free giveaways.

ABBA Fever took the crowd back to the 70s and 80s with their classic hits Mamma Mia and Dancing Queen before headliner Gareth Gates took to the stage to perform his number-one singles Spirit in the Sky and Anyone of Us.

Councillor Craig Whitby said: “I want to start by saying thank you to our sponsors, supporters and event partners. Without you, we wouldn’t have been able to put on such a fantastic day of entertainment and fun for the residents of Mansfield, so my heartfelt thanks go out to them.

“To our residents, thank you for joining us in the town centre, bringing your best singing voices and throwing yourself into a fun-filled day. It was great to bring this event back into the heart of Mansfield and to see so many of you joining us on the day.

“Events such as this show that when Mansfield district comes together, we can achieve great things and make a day for all to remember.”

Jay Rowlinson, Chief Executive at Mansfield BID, added: “Seeing thousands of people singing, laughing and enjoying our town was absolutely priceless this weekend.

“The return of Party on the Market has helped solidify that Mansfield is the place to visit in Nottinghamshire for fantastic free live-music events.

“The economic impact for our local businesses having hundreds of visitors within the town centre at any one time has been a great boost for them and has kicked off a fantastic summer season ahead.”

This event marked the start of the summer programme of events happening in and around Mansfield. This includes the return of the Armed Forces Day celebration in June, followed by the council’s annual Summer Festival in Titchfield Park in August.
