Gypsy and Traveller Site Allocations Development Plan Document (DPD)

Portfolio Holder and Full Council Decision

Gypsy, Traveller and Travelling Showpeople Options Development Plan Document went to the Full Council on 22 January 2020.

It was agreed by the councillors to consult on the further two potentially suitable sites for a six-week period with dates to be confirmed

The council is committed to meeting all housing needs within the district including those of the gypsy, traveller and travelling showpeople community.
The council consulted on 15 potential sites from July to September where 3,204 response and nine petitions were received. As part of the consultation 47 additional sites were submitted to the council for consideration. These sites have been reviewed and two reasonable alternative sites have been identified. The landowners have been contacted and the availability of the sites is yet to be confirmed.
This report seeks the agreement of councillors to consult on the further two potentially suitable sites for a six-week period with dates to be confirmed.
These sites have not been consulted on previously because there was no legislative reason to consult on sites that are proposed by the public. As one of the initially preferred sites may no longer be available, a review of the remaining suitable sites is necessary and it is considered appropriate to consult on these two sites shown in table one of the report - the former lorry park on Sheepbridge Lane, Mansfield, and Newlands Triangle, a piece of land off Newlands Road, Forest Town.
A total of four sites are required to be allocated or safeguarded for their existing use. The four sites will accommodate a site for permanent provision (three pitches), a site for transit provision (15 pitches) and two sites for travelling showpeople. The council is considering how the sites might be managed.

Please note Newlands Triangle site size is 0.62ha.

Formal notification of the start of the period of representation will be issued, until the start of the consultation comments cannot be accepted.
