Executive Mayor

Mansfield has an Executive Mayor who is responsible for the day to day running of the council's services.

The Executive Mayor is voted for by local people and serves for four years. The Executive Mayor provides political leadership to the council and the community.

Important decisions are taken by the Executive Mayor or they are delegated to Cabinet members.

Some decisions, such as those contained within the budget and framework policies, require council approval. The budget is prepared by the executive and the finalised budget proposals are considered by council. If council objects to the executive's recommended budget, the Executive Mayor must inform council of any reasons for disagreeing with the objections. The budget will then be reconsidered by council and at this meeting two thirds of the members of the council present and voting must vote to approve a budget which is not in accordance with the Executive Mayor's proposals.
