2023 Statutory Polling Place Review

In accordance with the Representation of the People Act 1983, the Electoral Administration Act 2006 and the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013, we are required to complete a full review of all polling districts and polling places every five-years. In undertaking the review, the review must take place between 1 October 2023 and 31 January 2025. The review will start on 6 October 2023.

In order to conduct the review we must comply with certain requirements when conducting the review:

  • We must seek to ensure that all electors have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable
  • So far as is reasonable and practicable every polling place should be accessible to electors who are disabled
  • A polling place must be designated for each polling district, unless the circumstances of a polling district are such that the location does not materially affect the convenience of the electors
  • The polling place should be an area in the district, unless there are special circumstances

Timetable for the review

6 October 2023 – Publication of the Notice of Review and (Acting) Returning Officer’s Proposals

6 October 2023 – Public consultation begins

14 November 2023 – End of Consultation on proposals

Information on where to send representations on the proposals made can be found on the notice of review. Comments can be made by either email, phone or completing the proforma. The council is required to publish any comments made as part of the consultation.
