Member Code of Conduct

The council has a Code of Conduct that sets out the rules governing the behaviour of its members.

All elected councillors and the Executive Mayor are covered by the Code of Conduct and are expected to follow it.

The Code of Conduct covers areas of individual behaviour such as councillors abusing their position or misusing the council's resources.

It is based on the Principles of Public Life, which are:

  • selflessness
  • integrity
  • objectivity
  • accountability
  • openness
  • honesty
  • leadership
  • personal judgment
  • respect for others
  • duty to uphold the law
  • stewardship.
