Glass recycling

Frequently asked questions

When will bins be delivered to residents?

Rollout of the glass recycling scheme is delayed due to response to COVID-19. We will announce a start date in due course.

How will I know when my bin will be collected?

Please note, your glass collection day may be different to your general waste and mixed recycling service. Keep track of your bin day collections at www.mansfield.gov.uk/bindays.

When individual use bins are delivered, a collections calendar will be stuck to the inside of the bin lid which will tell you when your collections are. Collections will be every eight weeks. Please ensure your bin is out by 6am on collection days.

How big is the bin?

Residents with an individual use bin, will receive a 140L wheeled bin.

The size of communal bins may vary and will be in line with the other bins in your communal facility.

What can go in my bin?

You can put any coloured glass bottle or jar in your new bin or bottle bank as long as it is clean and empty. However, we cannot accept any other kind of glass, such as Pyrex. Please do not contaminate your glass recycling bin with general waste, or put glass waste in your blue recycling bin. If this happens, you would have to remove the items and wait for your next glass collection or pay a service charge for us to return.

What do I do with the types of glass that can’t go in my glass recycling bin?

Glass that we cannot accept in your glass recycling bin, such as Pyrex or cut glass, must go in your general waste bin.

Do I have to pay for my glass recycling bin?

Glass recycling is funded by your Council Tax, therefore there is no additional charge for this service. However, if you opt out of the scheme and change your mind at a later date you will have to pay an admin and delivery fee to have a bin delivered and to be included in the scheme.

If I have opted out but changed my mind, how do I get a glass recycling bin?

Residents were given the opportunity to opt out of the glass recycling scheme before Friday 14 February. If you opted out but have changed your mind, you can opt back in but you will have to pay an admin and delivery fee to have a bin delivered and to be included in the scheme.

How do I get free email collection reminders?

To help ensure that you never miss a collection, you can sign up for our free e-mail reminder service and we will let you know the day before collection that you need to put your bin out.

If I haven't got room for a bin, can I put my glass recycling out in a bag instead?

All glass recycling must be placed in the 140L wheelie bin, where provided. We cannot collect glass recycling in any other container.
