Bin sizes and additional bins

All waste must be presented in an MDC issued wheeled bin.

You can request a smaller general waste (green) bin or recycling (blue) bin by filling in our exchange bin size form.

Additional bins:

Recycling bins

Standard recycling bins are 240 litres. Additional recycling bins can be issued on request.

Glass recycling bin

Standard glass recycling bins are 140 litres. Additional glass recycling bins can be issued on request.

General waste bin

Standard general waste bins are 180 litres. If six or more people live in your household you may qualify for an additional general waste bin. You can apply for this service by completing our additional general waste bin request form.

Garden waste bin

Standard garden waste bins are 240 litres. You can request additional bins at an extra cost. Details can be found on our garden waste page.

Flats and housing complexes

For flats and housing complexes, some properties may not be provided with individual wheelie bins but will have access to large communal bins to use for their waste. The same general rules apply for these communal bins including what can and can't go in each of them.
