Our Adopt a Piece of History scheme gives you the chance to support a special object from the collection while receiving a few exclusive benefits along the way. Your adoption helps us look after our collections, share their stories and keep them accessible for future generations.
There are three adoption levels to choose from, each offering its own special benefits. Whether you’re adopting for yourself or as a unique gift for someone else, there’s an option to suit you.
Bronze – £15
Receive an adoption certificate and an information pack about your chosen object and an acknowledgement on the Museum website.
Silver – £30
Enjoy all the benefits of Bronze, plus 10% off in the Museum coffee shop and gift shop.
Gold – £100
Our most exclusive adoption includes all Silver benefits, plus your name displayed online and near your adopted object, and an exclusive one-hour collections tour for two people.
The Egyptian Nightjar
Adopt a truly remarkable piece of Mansfield’s natural history, this rare Egyptian nightjar was the first of its kind ever recorded in Britain.
The Tin Tabernacle
A miniature piece of Mansfield’s museum history, this detailed model captures the original ‘Tin Tabernacle’, the town’s first museum building.
Miners Safety Gear
A powerful reminder of Mansfield’s mining heritage, this original safety gear was used by a Sherwood Colliery miner throughout his working life.
The Brewery Sign
A familiar symbol of Mansfield’s brewing heritage, this original brewery sign once hung above the entrance to the new brewhouse and carries the iconic Mansfield logo.
The Irish Elk Antlers
An awe-inspiring relic from the Ice Age, these enormous Irish Elk antlers stretch over 9 feet wide and belonged to one of the largest deer species ever to roam Britain and Europe.
A.S. Buxton
A peaceful glimpse of Sherwood Forest through the eyes of Mansfield artist A. S. Buxton, whose paintings captured the changing landscapes and heritage of the local area.
The Phone Box

A familiar symbol of everyday life before mobile phones, this red K6 phone box once stood just outside the museum and is now part of our story of Mansfield’s past.
The Projector

A glimpse behind the scenes of Mansfield’s cinema history, Westar 35mm projectors once helped bring the magic of the movies to audiences at The Granada.
Babe Rainbow

A colourful meeting of British Pop Art and Mansfield industry, this limited-edition ‘Babe Rainbow’ print was produced on tin plate by the Metal Box Company.
The Clock

A beautiful piece of Mansfield craftsmanship, this long-case clock was made by local clockmaker Thomas Binch in the 1740s and still bears his name on the clock face.
How to adopt a piece of history
Found an object you’d like to adopt? Simply click the ‘Adopt Me’ button beneath your chosen object. You’ll be taken to a new page where you can select and purchase your preferred level of adoption.
Your adoption pack will then be posted to you. If you choose Gold, your pack will be sent out as usual, and a member of our team will contact you to arrange your exclusive collections tour for two.
