Nominations are now open for the Kids in Museums Family Friendly Museum Award 2026! Each year, Kids in Museums puts the power in families’ hands to recognise the UK’s best family-friendly museums, galleries, and heritage sites. Since 2004, this award has celebrated organisations that go the extra mile to provide inspiring, welcoming experiences for children, families, and young people.
At Mansfield Museum, we are proud to create a space where families can explore, play, and learn together. Our World of Birds exhibition brings nature to life with interactive displays and hands-on activities, while our hidden objects trail keeps repeat visitors discovering something new. We run free monthly under-5 sessions, holiday Art Beat craft activities, and seasonal events like pumpkin carving workshops, family silent discos, and Fun Palace celebrations. By offering free entry and inclusive programmes, we ensure families from all backgrounds and abilities can enjoy meaningful cultural experiences, regardless of income or circumstance.

The deadline for nominations is 5pm on 27 April 2026. An expert panel will shortlist entries, after which undercover family judges will visit each museum to see how well they meet the Kids in Museums Manifesto. Winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in October 2026.
