Public Invited to Identify Historic Finds at Mansfield Museum

august event

Members of the public who have discovered curious or unidentified objects are invited to bring their finds to Mansfield Museum on Saturday, 30th August, between 11 AM and 3 PM.

Led by Meghan Dennis, the Finds Liaison Officer for Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, the event offers a unique opportunity for amateur archaeologists, metal detectorists, gardeners, dog walkers, and history lovers to gain expert insight into the items they’ve unearthed.

“This is a chance for anyone who’s ever picked up something unusual and wondered what it might be to come and find out,” said Meghan. “You might be holding a piece of history—let’s help you uncover its story.”

As part of the Portable Antiquities Scheme, this event supports the recording of archaeological objects found by the public to improve understanding of the past. All attendees will receive guidance on the significance of their finds, and, where applicable, items may be recorded for inclusion in the national database.
