Children Create Recycled Art Inspired by Gaia

Last week, the museum was buzzing with creativity as we welcomed nine groups of school and home educated children to experience the awe-inspiring Gaia installation.
As part of their visit, the students took part in a hands-on art workshop led by acclaimed local sculpture artist Michelle Reader.
Drawing inspiration from Gaia and its message about the beauty and fragility of our planet, the children worked collaboratively to create a stunning sculpture entirely from recycled materials. Guided by Michelle’s expertise and passion for sustainable art, the students explored themes of environmental responsibility and artistic expression.
The resulting piece is a vibrant, imaginative celebration of Earth—full of colour, texture, and creativity. It now holds pride of place in our museum classroom, serving as both a tribute to the children’s hard work and a reminder of the power of community-driven environmental action.
We invite all visitors to come and view the artwork, which stands as a testament to the talent and imagination of our local young people—and the importance of protecting the world we share.
