Empire Soldiers, created by MBD, is an immersive VR tribute to the overlooked courage and sacrifice of Caribbean and South Asian troops during World War I. Presented through two powerful 360° films, Empire Soldiers transports viewers to the battlefields of the past, offering a poignant reflection on the journey of race relations in the UK over the past century. MBD, renowned for their beautiful and emotive storytelling experiences, uses immersive technology to bring forgotten stories to life with artistic flair and technical expertise.
This is a unique chance to commemorate the bravery of unsung heroes through immersive digital storytelling. Each of the two films in Empire Soldiers runs for approximately 10-15 minutes. With two headsets available, visitors can engage with these impactful stories at their own pace. Please note that the experience is recommended for ages 12+ and the film "A Caribbean Story" contains racially sensitive language. A Story of Resilience and Social Justice Empire Soldiers isn’t just about wartime bravery; it explores the enduring resilience of communities of colour and highlights the ongoing struggle for social justice.
Through immersive storytelling, the project sheds light on the invaluable contributions of Caribbean and South Asian soldiers—stories that have too often been omitted from the historical record. Drop In to Experience History Reimagined Join us at Mansfield Museum from November 12th to November 22nd to experience Empire Soldiers—a profound journey through history that offers a fresh perspective on the past and a reflection on today’s world.
