Get curious with Thingymabobas!
Join us at Mansfield Museum between Tuesday 22 August and Saturday 9 September as Makers of Imaginary Worlds present Thingymabobas.
This playful, sensory experience allows visitors to meet and interact with a circus troupe of performing mechanical structures for an ‘animatronic and robotic circus’ of bizarrely wonderful machines created to inspire, delight and intrigue.
The work combines robotics, found objects, sensing technology, and circus performers such as acrobats, trapeze artists, tightrope walkers, jugglers, and unicyclists. It draws inspiration from the absurd contraptions of Heath Robinson and Rowland Emett, and Calder’s Circus.
A team of artists and creative technologists crafted five sculptures from various traditional materials, children’s toys, and repurposed objects in innovative ways. The result is a set of eye-catching artworks that ignite curiosity in audiences, young and old – we can’t wait for you to see them!
Arts Council funding has allowed Mansfield District Council’s Cultural Services team to bring this innovative and interactive new touring exhibition to residents and visiting families for free, so don’t miss out on your chance to come along and get involved. The museum is open from 10am to 3pm from Tuesday to Saturday each week.
