Michelle Reader

Based at the Harley Foundation Studios on the Welbeck estate near Worksop, Michelle Reader is a sculptor and artist educator who has been making unique figurative sculptures from household waste and found objects since 1998.  Her distinctive sculptures draw attention to environmental issues whilst minimising the environmental impact of the processes used to create them.  These sculptures are often representations of the natural world - for example a wild goat on top of a mountain of fly-tipped kitchen appliances, a bumblebee with a gas mask for a face, or a pipistrelle bat made from the offcuts and discarded fragments collected from her studio neighbours.

Michelle runs workshops in nurseries, libraries, schools, galleries, museums, parks and a multitude of public spaces.  Over the past few years alongside creating two life-size horses for The Harley Gallery, a giant wave for the National Space Centre and glittering unicorns for a light trail at Hampton Court Palace, she has been working with Inspire developing early years sessions in libraries as part of Little Creatives, and will be continuing this Early Years focus in Mansfield.
