Young performers invited to take the mic in Mansfield
Mansfield’s emerging creative talent is being invited to step into the spotlight as Young Performers Open Mic returns with an expanded age range.
Young performers across Mansfield and the surrounding area are being encouraged to showcase their talents at the next Young Performers Open Mic event, taking place at The Old Library on Leeming Street on Monday 9 November.
Delivered in partnership with Inspire Youth Arts, the popular event offers a welcoming platform for young people to share their creativity, build confidence and perform in front of a live audience.
In an exciting change, the age limit has been extended to include performers aged 13 to 25, opening up the opportunity to even more young creatives. Previously open to those aged up to 21, the expanded age range aims to make the event more accessible and give a wider range of emerging talent the chance to take part.
And there are no restrictions on creativity! Any performance artform is welcome, with previous events featuring everything from poetry, singing and songwriting to acting, monologue readings and stand-up comedy.
Whether performers are taking to the stage for the first time or looking for a relaxed space to develop their skills, Young Performers Open Mic is an opportunity to try something new, meet other creative people and share their work in a supportive environment.
The event takes place from 6pm to 8pm at The Old Library on Leeming Street, Mansfield, and runs regularly on the second Monday every other month.
Applications are now open, and young people aged 13 to 25 who are interested in performing can register their interest online HERE (opens in new window). Applications must be submitted by Monday 26 October.
Audiences are also warmly invited to come along and support the next generation of local talent, with tickets costing just £2. Everyone is welcome to watch, making it an affordable way to enjoy an evening of live performance and celebrate the creativity of young people in the community.
Cultural Services Manager, Christopher Neil, said:
“We’re delighted to be bringing Young Performers Open Mic back to The Old Library and, by extending the age range to 25, we hope to open the door to even more young people who want to share their creativity.
“Not everyone gets the opportunity to perform in front of an audience, and this event is all about creating a welcoming space where young people can give it a go, build their confidence and discover what they’re capable of. From poets and singers to actors and comedians, we want to hear from anyone with something creative to share.
“You don’t have to be a performer to get involved, either. For just £2, audiences can come along, show their support and enjoy discovering some of Mansfield’s exciting emerging talent.”
Young Performers Open Mic is delivered in partnership with Inspire Youth Arts and supported using public funding from Arts Council England.
