Raise a glass to live music
Sip & Sounds evenings continue in Groucho’s Bar at Mansfield Palace Theatre.
Following a highly successful pilot series of intimate folk nights in Groucho’s Bar, Mansfield Palace Theatre is delighted to announce the continuation of its Sip & Sounds acoustic music series.
Designed to offer audiences a uniquely close and atmospheric live music experience, Sip & Sounds invites music lovers to enjoy stripped-back performances from acclaimed folk and experimental artists in the relaxed setting of Groucho’s Bar. Our upcoming line-up consists of the following…
Wednesday 24 June – Steve Turner
Renowned as a pioneer of sophisticated English concertina accompaniments, Steve Turner brings decades of experience and one of the finest voices in folk music. A highly skilled multi-instrumentalist, he also performs on mandolin and tenor banjo. Steve began his career on the Manchester folk scene in the late 1960s with Geordie band Canny Fettle, touring extensively for eight years and recording two albums.
Saturday 11 July – MADRIGIRL (Jude Rees)
Recently named one of BBC Radio 3 Late Junction’s ‘Sounds of 2025’, Jude Rees is a Midlands-based, genre-defying oboist and multi-instrumentalist. Performing under her solo moniker MADRIGIRL, she fuses ancient music traditions with modern electronics, reimagining early polyphony through immersive, live-looped soundscapes. Her performances feature an extraordinary array of instruments including shawms, crumhorns, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes, synths and voice. Jude has collaborated widely across the UK folk scene and contributed to major film, theatre and broadcast productions including The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim and work with the Royal Shakespeare Company.
Saturday 5 September 2026 – Jan and Paul Ramsey
Performing a rich blend of traditional and contemporary folk, Americana and original compositions, Jan and Paul Ramsey bring warmth and storytelling to the stage in equal measure.
