Shakespeare in the park returns to Mansfield

Odd socks 2025 16

We are gearing up for our next big outdoor event - some Shakespeare in the park with Oddsocks bringing a modern take on Romeo and Juliet to Mansfield next month.

With summer around the corner, theatre lovers are invited to pack a picnic and enjoy some Shakespeare in the park in Mansfield next month.

Oddsocks returns with their new modern take on the well-loved classic, Romeo and Juliet, finding laughs and pathos in The Bard’s most dramatic of tragedies.

Will Romeo pull himself together to escape with Juliet as a family feud divides the community and violence stalks the streets? Will the “star-crossed lovers” see beyond the hate and dare to follow their hearts? And will the audience help them to elope?

All will be revealed in Titchfield Park on Sunday 14 June. The audience is invited to bring a blanket or a chair and settle back for outdoor theatre amid one of Mansfield’s best loved open spaces in all its mid-summer glory.

Cllr Stuart Richardson, Mansfield District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Growth, said: “Oddsocks always manages to bring a modern bearing to Shakespeare. The play may be over 500 years old, but its themes are as relevant and as universal today as they were in the 1500s.

“It remains one of Shakespeare’s best loved and most accessible tragedies and it is no coincidence that it has remained on the GCSE set texts list for decades.

“Taking drama out of the theatre and into the open air in the summer is something we love to promote and we hope it brings families out together to enjoy culture in a special way. The show will go on regardless of what the weather may bring.”

The show is suitable for children aged seven and over but youngsters of all ages are welcome. The play starts at 5pm. Tickets are £18 and available via the what's on pages.
