This Week’s Film: Matisse from Tate Modern and MoMA

Join Exhibition on Screen for a dazzling celebration of Henri Matisse: The Cut-Outs, a sell-out exhibition at Tate Modern, London, and MoMA, New York. Studied in schools and beloved by audiences of all ages, Matisse’s cut-outs represent the artist at his most playful, inventive, and joyous.

With behind-the-scenes access to both exhibitions, the film takes viewers on an intimate journey into Matisse’s studio and includes exclusive footage from MoMA’s preparations. Rare archive material reveals the artist at work, while acclaimed actor Simon Russell Beale gives voice to Matisse’s own words. The documentary also features expert commentary from Tate Director Nicholas Serota, MoMA Director Glenn Lowry, and friends and family of the artist.

Audiences will be treated to breathtaking music and dance performances inspired by Matisse’s cut-outs, including his groundbreaking book Jazz – a bold celebration of colour and rhythm created in the final years of his life.
