Gaia—a breathtaking six-metre replica of Earth—will be presented right here at Mansfield Palace Theatre. Suspended on our stage, this exclusive presentation offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the magic of our backstage spaces like never before.
Created by renowned artist Luke Jerram, Gaia presents a unique and awe-inspiring perspective of our planet. The stunning sculpture showcases the Earth's continents and oceans, illuminated by subtle lighting that emphasizes both the beauty and fragility of our home. Standing beneath this giant, floating globe, you’ll feel a profound connection to the Earth, sparking reflection on our place in the universe.
Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind, immersive encounter with Jerram’s stunning artwork - the first time Gaia has ever been displayed in a theatre in Nottinghamshire.
Spend time in our auditorium taking in the beauty of the earth before coming up on stage in small groups to have an up close expereince with Gaia.
During General Admission hours, take a seat in the balcony, put on a set of wireless headphones and embark on an immersive audio journey that captures the spirit of Mansfield. Hear a specially commissioned soundscape written and performed by actor Michael Lambourne, blending spoken word with ambient environmental recordings from across the district by digital artist Ian Dearman.
This evocative audio experience offers a unique perspective—placing listeners in the role of astronauts gazing down at Earth, reflecting on themes of local pride, heritage, and the rich natural habitats of Mansfield. It is a celebration of place, community, and our deep connection to the landscapes we call home.
These soundscapes will enhance your connection to Gaia, taking you on an auditory journey that complements the visual spectacle.
