In Good Company CPD Workshop with Emma Torrance: Setting up a Business
Creatives - Have you wondered if you should set up a company ? Emma Torrance will tell us about 7 areas that will help you to decide.
This workshop will be relevant to either those already working and wondering if they have the best structure, or for people new to business and thinking of setting a business up and want to choose the right legal structure to operate under. We will look at 4 options of structure: sole trader, private Ltd company, social enterprise or charity Different things are important to different people, so what is right for some will not be for others.
The 7 areas we will discuss that will help you decide are:
• Control
• Risk
• Money – taxes & where you will pay the least
• Reputation and Image
• Applying for funding or loans
• Simplicity v complexity
• Privacy
Once you have decided what the right structure is, we look at how you set this up.
Another important issue we will cover is pitching your rates as a sole trader and finding confidence to view your practice as a business. Having confidence, particularly around asking for money for your time is something most people struggle with, particularly in the early stages, as its all very personal.
We will not be covering how to price but rather encouraging & building confidence. This session will include a group interactive discussion.
