Planning advice for businesses

Advice and costs for business planning

We are keen to encourage new business development and create jobs. However, it is important to remember that we are committed to protecting the local environment and the quality of life enjoyed by local people.

Our Planning guide for businesses document provides comprehensive information to businesses on planning matters, or visit our Pre-application advice page.

Do I need permission?

Some work to business premises and changes of use do not require planning permission. You can submit your proposal by completing our Business enquiry form and we will let you know if permission is needed.

Alternatively visit the Planning Portal's Do I need planning permission page (opens in a new window).

Working from home

If you want to run a business from home, please submit your ideas using our Working from home enquiry form. We will assess your proposal and advise you on whether or not you will need to apply for planning permission.

We charge for processing a business or a working from home enquiry. The costs can be found in our Planning and building control fees and charges document.
