The importance of sleep and rest for your mental health

We want to raise awareness of the link between sleep and mental health.  Living with a mental health problem can affect how well you sleep and poor sleep can have a negative impact on your mental health.

In times of stress many people report to turning to unhealthy coping strategies such as smoking or drinking alcohol, which in turn can impact on the quality of your sleep.

If you are struggling to get a good night’s sleep, Time to Change’s Couch to Bed activity is designed not only to highlight the various means by which you might ensure a quality night’s sleep, but also provide a challenge for designing a better routine.

Tips to help improve your sleep

Time to Change have published a number of activities to help with improved sleep.  More information can be found in their Mental Health Awareness activity pack (5mb).

More information about sleep and mental health can be found at the Mental Health Foundation website.
