Testing for school pupils, staff and their bubbles
From 1 March 2021, if you’re a member of a household, childcare bubble or support bubble of staff or a pupil you can get a twice-weekly test:
- through your employer if they offer testing to employees
- at a local community testing site
- by collecting a home test kit from a test site
- by ordering a home test kit online.
Get a test through your employer
Your workplace may offer rapid lateral flow testing to you. Contact your employer to find out more.
Take a test at a rapid lateral flow test site
You can take a rapid lateral flow test at a local Community testing site. Testing at these sites is assisted, which means you will swab yourself under the supervision of a trained operator. More information about our testing sites.
Collect test kits
From 9 April, in line with the government announcement, people aged 18 and over in Nottinghamshire and Nottingham will be able to collect two boxes of seven tests per person or four boxes per family from our community testing sites or after 2.30pm from our Local Testing Site (LTS). People collecting boxes from our community testing sites can also have a supervised test to help ensure that tests done at home are accurate.
People aged 18 and over will also be able to collect the same number of tests from local pharmacies through the Government’s new ‘Pharmacy Collect ‘service. Local participating pharmacies can be found on the NHS Test Site Finder (opens in new window).
If testing at home, people will need to register their results online (opens in new window) or by calling 119. They should self-isolate if positive and order a confirmatory PCR test.
You can collect two packs of home test kits from a local testing centres after 2.30pm.

If you've tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 90 days, please do not come for a test.
If you want to find out if there is a queue at any time, or find other nearby sites, then visit the NHS COVID-19 Test Finder website (opens in new window).
Do not visit a collection point outside opening hours, as it may be used to test people with coronavirus symptoms outside these times. Find your nearest home test kit collection point (opens in new window).
Order home test kits online
If you cannot get tested at your workplace or are unable to go to a test site or collect test kits, you can order a home test kit online. Do not order online if you can get a test through other methods so home kits are available for those who need them most.
What twice-weekly testing involves. You will be asked to:
- take a test twice a week (every 3 or 4 days apart)
- report every result to NHS Test and Trace on the same day you take the test
- Report your test result online or by calling 119.
If anyone tests positive or gets coronavirus symptoms, they should tell the school and:
- self-isolate immediately
- get a PCR test to confirm the result
- follow the stay at home guidance for households with possible coronavirus infection.
A negative result means the test did not find signs of coronavirus. But this does not guarantee you do not have coronavirus, so you should keep following all coronavirus guideline and advice (opens in new window) including:
- regular handwashing
- social distancing.
