Help shape improvements to park

What attractions and improvements would you like to see in Mansfield’s Berry Hill Park? That is the question Mansfield District Council is asking both current and potential park users.

The council is set to receive £2.94m from the Towns Fund to create the district’s first destination park by improving existing facilities and creating new attractions not found elsewhere in Mansfield. The funding is subject to Mansfield Place Board approving a business case, which will then be sent to the Government for confirmation.

A destination park is an exciting and fun place for the whole family to spend the day with various activities suitable for all ages, from toddlers to teenagers and adults.

A survey has been launched so people can give their views on a wide range of potential things to see and do at the park, which is off Lichfield Lane. Ideas include a climbing wall/bouldering, model boating, high ropes, crazy golf, bike hire and cycling trails, a sensory garden, art trail, a multi-use games area, and a new play area for older children and children with physical disabilities.

It is hoped the park could host more entertainment and events in the future and people are asked to comment on ideas ranging from live music, outdoor theatre and cinema, to family fun days, sports sessions and funfairs.

There is also the opportunity for people to make alternative suggestions to those listed, as well as give their thoughts on possible improvements to the café provision and seating, toilets and parking.

Cllr Andy Burgin, Portfolio Holder for Environment and Leisure, said: “This is the biggest one-off investment any of our parks has seen. We want to ensure we provide high-quality facilities that will not only help improve the health and well-being of users but attract people from across the district and further afield to visit time and time again in the years to come.

“This is your opportunity to help us turn this site into our flagship park for the benefit of future generations. Even if you’ve never visited the park before, please complete the survey to let us know what would encourage you to visit.”

The results will be used to help create a masterplan, which is due to be published early next year. Subject to obtaining the funding and relevant permissions, it’s hoped that improvement work could start in 2022.
