The Big Switch On

This year the Big Switch On was a great success with more than 8,000 people visiting the Market Place on Sunday 19 November.

Here's some information about what happened...

The town centre was alive with FREE activities to get you into the festive spirit. There was a chance to see Marshall from PAW Patrol at intervals throughout the day, visit Santa in his grotto in Four Seasons, take part in the Buzzy B Club activities and sample a variety of food from the food court. There was also a children's Christmas party at the main stage to get children geared up and ready for the main show. Goodie bags were handed out and games were played!

The main stage show begun in the Market Place with Mayor Kate Allsop followed by an interview with local Sidecar racing champions the Birchall Brothers. There was then live music by a Michael Buble tribute act, Kai McKenzie, and Vicky Jackson, who provided an up-tempo mix of pop favourites. There were also special appearances from the cast of this year's pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk from the Palace Theatre, as well as the big man in red himself, Santa, and for the first time ever, a stunning laser show timed to music. The day finished with the town's Christmas lights being switch on by Mansfield Town Football Club and One Call Insurance bosses, Carolyn and John Radford, followed by an impressive firework finale.
