Other Ways to Pay
Direct Debit
This is a safe and easy way to pay Council Tax. You don't have to remember to pay, as the bank or building society automatically pays the Council on the date the money is due. The payer always remains in control of a Direct Debit, not the Council.
Direct Debits are cost effective and help us to be more efficient. People who pay by Direct Debit help us to save money and so reduce the amount of Council Tax we need to charge. Because of this safety, convenience and cost-effectiveness, we encourage payment by Direct Debit.
We offer a wide range of Direct Debit payment options to suit your needs. You can pay on either the 1st, 5th, 14th, 20th, or 26th of the month, or weekly every Friday.
To set up a Direct Debit, simply call us on (01623) 463162, with your bank details. It only takes around 3 minutes. Alternatively, you can print off a Council Tax Direct Debit Instruction from the related media section opposite and return it to us by post or in person.
If you decide to pay on the 1st of the month, you can pay over 10 or 12 instalments. If you wish to pay on the 20th of the month, you can choose 10 or 11 instalments. Payments on the 14th and 26th of the month are made over 10 instalments. All of these instalments commence in April.
However, if you choose to pay on the 5th over 10 months, your instalments would start in May, with the final payment collected in February (but see the options below).
The Direct Debit Guarantee
This Guarantee is offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits
• If there are any changes to the amount, date or frequency of your Direct Debit Mansfield District Council will notify you 10 working days in advance of your account being debited or as otherwise agreed. If you request Mansfield District Council to collect a payment, confirmation of the amount and date will be given to you at the time of the request
• If an error is made in the payment of your Direct Debit by Mansfield District Council or your bank or building society you are entitled to a full and immediate refund of the amount paid from your bank or building society
- If you receive a refund you are not entitled to, you must pay it back when Mansfield District Council asks you to
• You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify us.
24 Hour Telephone Payment Facility
We operate a 24-hour telephone payment service. Call us with your credit or debit card details and Council Tax account number. The service is customer operated by pressing the numbers on your telephone keypad. Please phone 01623 428632.
There is a 2% charge for using a credit card.
Standing Order
A standing order is an instruction you give to your bank or building society. Unlike a direct debit where payments are automatically taken, you instruct the bank or building society how much you want to pay, when you want the payments to be taken from your account and how long for.
It is important to remember that you will need to allow at least 4 working days before the 1st of each month to ensure that the payment reaches your account by the correct payment date.
You will need to inform your bank or building society each year when you receive your new Council Tax account, or if you receive a revised Council Tax account part way through the financial year of the new amounts you want to pay.
If you would like to arrange a standing order please download the form from the link on the right hand side of the screen and send it directly to your bank or building society
