How Is Housing Benefit Paid?

Housing Benefit will be paid by BACS fortnightly in arrears, but if the payment is being made directly to your landlord it will be four weekly in arrears.

If your claim has been calculated under the Local Housing Allowance Scheme then your Housing Benefit will be paid direct to you.  All new Housing Benefit claims and change of address claims will use the new Local Housing Allowance rules.  For more information we have created guidance on the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) scheme.

If you have an existing claim that is not yet under Local Housing Allowance your payments will be made as you requested when you originally made your claim.
