Organised by local business networking group, Mansfield 2020, in partnership with Mansfield Learning Partnership, the Junior Enterprise competition asked year nine pupils to set up Olympic themed businesses. Each school's Olympic-inspired goods (including t-shirts, bracelets, socks, flags, teddy bears and sports packs) were sold by the youngsters on Wednesday 4 July on Mansfield market. The following evening all participants were invited to celebrate their achievements and given individual certificates. Various category prizes were also awarded to the teams.

This competition was designed to help encourage entrepreneurship and raise aspirations in local schools. Local employers were involved throughout the competition, donating time and money towards sponsorship, planning the programme and mentoring individual teams. Any profits made will be transferred to a special trust fund to help run the programme in years to come.

Award categories included Best Product, sponsored by Mansfield 2020; Most Profitable Product, sponsored by Mansfield District Council; Most Community Related Product, sponsored by West Notts. College; Best Team, sponsored by Sainsbury's; Best Presentation, sponsored by The Linney Group and Overall Winner, receiving £500, sponsored by Hall-Fast Ltd.
