Mansfield's Charlotte Henshaw has this week been confirmed as one of the 44 swimmers to represent Great Britain at the London 2012 Paralympic games.
The announcement was made on Tuesday 29 May by The British Paralympic Association. In April Charlotte was selected to compete for Paralympics GB at London 2012 but this was subject to confirmation of slots by the IPC Swimming.
Charlotte, who swims as part of the Nova Centurion Swimming Club, will be competing in the 100m breaststoke and is now the fourth athlete from the local area to be taking part in the London 2012 games.
Charlotte commented: "I am really happy that my place on the team has now been officially confirmed, so I can devote my focus towards London. It will be fantastic to represent Nova Centurion and Mansfield at my second Paralympic Games."
Ollie Hynd, from Kirkby-in-Ashfield, attained Paralympic qualification in both 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley and his brother Sam Hynd has also qualified for the 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
Mansfield's double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington will be competing in the Olympic 800m freestyle and 400m freestyle event.
Mansfield District Council's Swim Coach and Development Officer Glenn Smith will also be joining Mansfield's list of athletes at the London games after he was this week confirmed an official member of the coaching staff.
Glenn, who has been coaching in Mansfield for the past 16 years and is one of the seven coaches picked for the Paralympics, sees his selection as an incredible honour. He said: When I heard that I was on the team, I was pretty speechless. I'm extremely honoured and proud to be part of the Great Britain Swimming Coaching Staff for the Paralympics.
"I would like to thank all those who have supported the squad in Mansfield, including Mansfield District Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, locally based clubs and the swimmers and parents of the Nova Centurion Swim Squad.
"I would also like to thank my wife Karen, who is my greatest supporter and my late mother, who introduced me to swimming from a very young age and encouraged me as both a competitor in the sport and as a coach. This is an incredible achievement for Mansfield. To have four competitors representing the town, in both the Olympics and Paralympics is fantastic.
Both Ollie and Charlotte have each received £2,012 from Nottinghamshire County Council's Shining Stars fund.
