Cllr Brian Lohan takes the Chair

Mansfield District Council has appointed Cllr Brian Lohan, ward councillor for Portland, as its new Chairman of the Council for the year ahead. Cllr Julia Yemm, ward councillor for Sherwood, was appointed as Vice-chairman.

The appointments were made at the Council's General Meeting, where Cllr Sally Higgins was presented with a medal and thanked for her services as Chairman over the past year.

The Chairman and Vice-chairman are responsible for upholding and promoting the principles of the Council's constitution and presiding over meetings, so that Council business is carried out efficiently and with regard to the rights of the elected members and the interests of the Community.

Commenting on his new role, Cllr Lohan said: "I would like to thank members for appointing me. I am very happy to take up the honour of being Council Chairman. Cllr Higgins will be a hard act to follow."

Cllr Julia Yemm thanked her colleagues for nominating her as Vice Chairman, assuring them she would not let them down.
