Inspirational torchbearers - Glenn Chambers

Glenn Chambers, 50, from Underwood, Nottinghamshire, has spent much of his life involved in sport and is thrilled to be part of one of the world's biggest sporting events when he carries the Olympic torch through the Mansfield District on 28 June.

Glenn was nominated to become an Olympic torchbearer by his wife Donna.

Glenn Chambers

He served a police officer for 30 years and during that time gave a considerable amount of time and commitment to sport.  He played football for the England and British Police Football teams and later went onto manage them. The latest success was when he led the British team to the European Championships in Greece.

He runs the half marathon in Nottinghamshire on an annual basis to raise money for charities close to his heart; charities which have supported both his eldest son and his wife through illness.

After leaving the police force, Glenn now shares his passion for sport and fitness by coaching football in primary schools.

In May, Glenn is set to receive a National Award for Services in the Police Force during his 30 years service.

Glenn said: "I am particularly pleased to be running in Mansfield as I started my football career at Mansfield Town Football Club as an apprentice at the age of 15.  I went onto represent Mansfield Town FC for almost four years until joining the police. I don't consider myself to be special but I have always been determined to succeed in sport and I'm very honoured and privileged to be able to take part in this historical event."
